Spring has sprung! A day in the life of a student journalist.

Sangria made with red wine is the love of my life.

Yesterday was absolutely beautiful! I spent my morning and part of my afternoon filming a city council meeting at City Hall, then headed outdoors (finally!) to get some lunch and embrace this amazing summer weather we’ve been graced with.

Half the media in attendance. Many of those journos are my classmates.

In front of the camera for the day.

Street meat: my Toronto weakness.

Regardless of how long I’ve lived (or will live) in Toronto, you know I’m not a born Torontonian because of one little thing.. I love pigeons. I’m serious, I do! Where I grew up, we had no pigeons. I think they’re the cutest, sweetest things. So, yeah, they’re totally pea-brained and poop everywhere and invade every public space… so? All they want is bread!

Bailey Martel: unabashed lover of pigeons.

Do not hate the pigeons. Love the pigeons.

Once we got home, Briar and I put on our bikinis and got some sun for the first time in 2012. No, this is not a photo from last summer.. we legitimately got a tan on March 21st. Spring, you are too kind.

A working morning and a sunny afternoon? My favourite kind of day, no doubt. Productive + happy.

Briar is the only person I know who is paler than I am. Hopefully we can get enough vitamin D this summer to change that!

After that, we went for a walk around the neighbourhood. Briar will soon be my roommate in May, so I’m slowly helping her get familiar with the area. Although, walking deeper into Christie Pits Park, even I had no idea there was a community garden and pool!

It was still ridiculously hot, and 5pm somewhere (just kidding, it was 5pm here!) so we went to my favourite & local pub, Pour Boy. Sangria and steamwhistle pints were had and much deserved after our stressful and long day…

Briar. Beer. Boobs. Battlestar Galactica.

Just kidding, it was a breeze. Literally.

I love you just the way you are. Seriously, you are perfect. NEVER CHANGE!!

Dear summer of 2012: I can’t wait for you!

“Looking up from underneath
Fractured moonlight on the sea
Reflections still look the same to me
As before I went under

And it’s peaceful in the deep
Cathedral where you cannot breathe
No need to pray no need to speak
Now I am under all

And it’s breaking over me
A thousand miles down to the sea bed
Found the place to rest my head
Never let me go
Never let me go”

This afternoon was absolutely beautiful, so I spent a few hours at the harbour front photographing everything in sight. A little tourist-y of me I suppose, but not the same at all as when I first laid my eyes (and lens) on the city. There’s something different from capturing Toronto in the eyes of a Torontonian, and the eyes of a tourist.

Above is a self-portrait that turned out exactly how I wanted. I have some other shots from the day, as well as a whole collection of photographs (including my favourite instagram shots) that I’d like to post. Perhaps this weekend if I can find the time.

Above lyrics are from “Never Let Me Go” by Florence + The Machine. You can find the song on her sophomore album, Ceremonials. Florence will also be gracing us (meaning Toronto) with her presence on August second, and, announced yesterday, she’ll be hitting the stage at Osheaga 2012! So very exciting.

this is probably a pathetic number
